Affordable & Fun Family Spring Getaway at Toronto’s Don River Valley!

Our family of five stayed at this hotel for a Family Day getaway back in February. I had purchased a deal from the website (the same one being offered now) for only $69 a night and thought, why not give it a whirl?

The hotel lobby is really chic and there is a restaurant and bar area on site although we did not use either since we were just too busy. The hotel is nestled in a small ravine in the Don Mills area of Toronto which is easy access off the Don Valley Parkway from the 401.  The deal included free parking as well. The rooms were clean and nice enough for my liking. Some of the décor was not the most up to date as some hotels, but it was fine for us.

At the hotel, the big attraction for families is the large, round indoor pool which is truly spectacular! There are lots of loungers set around the pool with beautiful nature light filtering in and clean facilities.  When we visited, it was extremely cold (-30) and as a result, I found the sitting area a bit on the cool side, although the water was warm. I think under less extreme temperatures, it  would be perfect in the spring or summer and extra lovely with the sun beaming down through the beautiful domed glass ceiling.  There is also a hot tub and in the warmer months, an outdoor pool as well.

As I said earlier, the hotel is a stone’s throw from the Ontario Science Centre so idea if you plan to work a visit in to your stay. A very short drive away we found tons of shopping and are restaurants along Eglington Avenue in one direction and in the opposite direction, we found The Shops at Don Mills.  The Shops at Don Mills is an open air centre with exceptional shops and restaurants including a lovely Town Square feeling. Starting in April until Fall,  they run a train ride for kids on weekends for only $3.  There was even a Tim Horton’s walking distance.

We ended up venturing to the Shops at Don Mills and ate dinner at a lovely spot called Glow Fresh Grill & Wine Bar. The atmosphere was quite fancy, but it was not expensive and they catered to our kids no problem and even had a kids menu and stuff for them to do.  Our meals were delicious and the service was impeccable. They feature fresh local food and their menu specializes in eating clean and healthy. I highly recommend it.

This hotel special offer on is only good until the end of May 2013 and is even food for use of the long weekend, pending availability. Don’t delay.. you have until Midnight tonight (April 16th) to purchase it.
