My Top 6 Reasons My Family LOVED the Shrine Circus…(and yours will too!)

My Top 6 Reasons to Take Your Family to see the Shrine Circus

The Shrine Circus! Summer Ontario 2013 Tour Continues.

The Shrine Circus has come to town — Oakville this(weekend then on to Markham to be precise –  and if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, II encourage you to take your family to share mystery and magic that only the circus can deliver.
Best of all, I have an offer for you to enjoy The Shrine Circus by buying discounted tickets for 50% Off! And a contest too… scroll down for details.. And don’t forget, circus  proceeds support the great philanthropic work of the Shriners towards children’s hospitals.
I couldn’t wait to take my kids to the circus since this is a real highlight from my childhood.. one that really stuck. My children had the same reaction.. sheer amazement and a truly unforgettable!
Here’s what my kids had to say..
  • “My favourite part was the horses and baby pony because it was just so cute! The clown was really funny too and made me laugh  and I liked it when he made the dads dance”   ”    Age 7
  • “i loved the tigers because they went through the fire”    Age 5
  • “I loved the elephants tricks and the guy spinning the Circus Wheel blew my mind.. I thought for sure he was going to fall!”   Age 12
The Shrine Circus’s Summer 2013 Ontario tour wraps up in Ottawa on August 11th (see complete list below) but there is still time for you to take a short road trip to capture the magic of the circus with  your family!

Bargain Hunting Momma’s Top 6 Reasons to Go to The Shrine Circus
# 1-  The Thrill Factor!
This show is very exciting and some of the acts are very thrilling to watch. I was quite literally on the edge of my seat during many of the performances. I’m talking chewing my fingernails, shoulders tensed up, covering my eyes kind of thrilling.  Not scary for kids, but just extremely exciting as the performers executed some really dangerous and death defying acts. We are still talking about the Circus Wheel. I loved it all and so did my kids! You just don’t see this kind of thing – people risking their lives for your entertainment — very often and it is worth the price of admission and then some.
#2 – Family Night Unplugged: So Much Better than TV & Cheaper than the Movices!
How refreshing for our family to get out together in public for a night out. This just doesn’t happen a lot with our busy schedules and it was a real treat to spend 3 quality hours together unplugged.  On a normal night, we would all be in separate rooms glued to our different shows or noses stuck in iPods or laptops so I loved this night out. If we do go out , we might take in a movie, but for the price of this circus ($60 for a family of 4) we could barely pay our admission into a 3D movie and considering we saw nearly 20 live performers & animals too over the course of about 3 hours, there was really no comparison.
#3. The Animals – Tigers – Elephants – Horses!
Where else can you see 15 beautiful Bengal tigers, elephants and Arabian horses literally 15 feet in front of you? This circus boasts of the largest exotic cat act in the world and it is pretty awesome to see the trainers and the cats in action behind the cage. The performing elephants were astounding and the equestrian horses were also off the hook breathtaking! Truly amazing!
#4. The People & Performers!
I loved the fact that the circus is comprised of a bunch of families performing together. Fathers, daughters, sons and mothers all working together showcasing their athleticism, skill and artistry in a wide variety of talents that included   trapeze and aerial artistry, juggling & unicycling and comic, high-flying acrobatics. It was so impressive and very entertaining to watch. Our family is hooked on America’s Got Talent and this show reminded me of some of the amazing acts we have seen but so much better because it was live!
#5 The Show Captivated all Ages
Between my husband and my three kids ranging in age from 5 to 12, it is almost impossible to find an activity that everyone likes.  From the moment we spotted the circus tent (“we’re going in there?!) until we entered the huge European style Big Top, the experience was quite incredible!  From the performers the food and everything in-between, I assure you that I never heard a word out of anyone for the duration of the show.. it was pure captivation and everyone at full attention. A+
#6. The History – I am a history buff and it is pretty cool to be a part of something that has been around for 250 years in a world where fads come and go in a blink of an eye. Clearly, they are doing something right because audiences just keep coming. The Zerbini family who runs this circus has been travelling around the world for ten generations  since they started their first circus in 1763 in Paris. This tour celebrates their 250th year.. you can be a part of it!

The History of the Shrine Circus
The Annual Shrine Circus is one of the largest events sponsored by the Shriners. The Shrine Circus provides a quality, fun-filled, family experience with proceeds going to a great cause—the good work of Shriners in your community. Shriners belong to an international fraternity of approximately 360,000 members in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Panama, Philippines and Puerto Rico. Founded in 1872, the Shrine is best known for its unique parades, its distinctive red fez, and its official philanthropy—children’s hospitals.
I was chosen as a Shrine C ircus ambassador and attended the Rexdale opening night with my family as a guest of  the Zerbini Family Circus’ 250th Anniversary Celebration.  The opinions expressed in the post are entirely my own.

Stay Cool with $5 Matinees at Frederick Twin Cinemas. Now Playing TURBO!

Turbo (film) poster.jpg

Looking for a cool indoor activity this week? When the temps reach the 40 degree with a humidex mark, this Momma retreats with the kids to nice, cool indoor places. A movie sure sounds good to me!

Today is the premiere of the new kids animated flick called Turbo and it looks really cute on the trailer so off we go! The basic premise is a little snail who dreams of being fast race car kind of snail, and when magical things happen and he gets his wish, who knows what will happen? I will let you know how it is.

And to make this even better, you can catch it at Kitchener’s Frederick Twin Cinemas. This little gem is one of the few independently owned theatres in the area and offers affordable pricing for families. It is a nice full size theatre that offers two screens seating approx. 200-300 with concessions.

Box Office Pricing

  • $5 matinees,
  • $5 kids 13 and under
  • $6.50 for adults
  • Tuesday’s it is only $4,

If you are a movie theatre or film officiando you might not like this theatre but for most people, it is just fine. Here are a few things to know before you go.. The seats are not the fancy schmancy ones, the sound system is not a high end Dolby digital one and they don’t offer 3D versions of any films,  ut it’s still a perfectly lovely movie experience for those who don’t want to break the bank. Having 3 kids, this is often the difference between going to a movie or staying home and they don’t seem to mind skipping the 3D.  I can take them all to a matinee for $20 instead of closer to $40 regular or $60 in 3D at an Empire Theatre.

Click here to check out their website…
