Why do YOU #LoveWhereYouLive – CONTEST!

Why do YOU #LoveWhereYouLive

Basically…. what makes YOUR community, city, village, THE place to live in!
Why do YOU #LoveWhereYouLive?!
RE/MAX Real Estate Centre Inc  is running a cool contest right now called #LoveWhereYouLive with some great prizes to be won. So it got me thinking, what makes Kitchener Waterloo special to me?

GRAND PRIZE: The Oban Inn, Spa & Restaurant Package!
Second Prize: The Olde Bridge Place
Third Prize: Sanctuary Day Spa

Although I didn’t grow up in Kitchener-Waterloo I’ve been here ever since the University of Waterloo drew me out of high school, and I loved it so much, I just never left.  Centrally located in the middle of the province, it’s an ideal location that is only a short drive to most anywhere but offers everything I need in a smaller sized city.  After marrying a Kitchener boy nearly twenty years ago, I now call this home and I’d love to share just a few of the fantastic places I’ve discovered.

Best Saturday Outing – We are blessed to have not one, but two wonderful farmer’s markets in Kitchener Waterloo. Depending on your mood, you can try more quaint Kitchener  Market or if you up for some serious shopping and crowds, venture out to the much larger St Jacobs one and a full-fledged Mennonite , flea market, artisians and outlet mall shopping experience. Both offer fabulous fresh produce, meat breads and cheese and tasty treats to satisfy every taste. Fresh apple fritters – yum!

Favorite Family Restaurant – The entire family agrees that a trip to Moose Winooskis is a good time for all. Great atmosphere and yummy food, including some of the best wings in town make for a nice night out.  The family birthday tradition is to wear the Moose Antlers and spin the wheel and pray you don’t land on ‘Pie in the face!’

Best Family Thing to do on a Sunday – Our busy family enjoys unplugging and taking a hike along the peaceful and scenic Grand River on any one of the many hiking trails in the Walter Bean Trail System. We especially like the one down by the bridge close to Breslau off Victoria Street.  Watch canoes and kayaks going by, see what the fishermen are catching that day and if you are lucky, spot hawks and maybe even an owl one one of our trips.

Rangers Logo

Favourite Friday Night Event – From September to March, Friday night is game night for the Kitchener Rangers at The Auditorium. Hockey fans from Rangers Nation converge upon the building to take part in what has become a rousing Friday night tradition.  The arena is sold out almost every game as dedicated fans create a virtual sea of red white and blue with jerseys and apparel, showing their undying adoration to their home team. Win or lose, KW loves their hockey and loves their Rangers and fans enjoy showing their support in this Friday night tradition where fans of all ages socialize and enjoy a good night out.

Favorite Local Event – The Kitchener Blues Festival is a must attend festival for my husband every August. Every year we discover more great musical acts and get to hear some of the best Blues musicians around. Nothing like soaking up some hot summer rays, listening to some blues and sipping a nice cold one on the outdoor patio at City Hall. Oh and did I mention is FREE. Wow..

Favourite FREE Fun for Kids – The Kitchener Public Library offers incredible free fun for kids of all ages and we are regulars at many of their programs year round. Programs are creative and current and keep kids interested and busy, while teaching them good life skills along the way. Whether is a summer, PA Day diversion or special event like Mine Craft Mania, the staff are friendly and energetic and always make the kids glad they came.

Saving Money With Vacation Rentals — Book Launch & Giveaway!

How to Find the Perfect Vacation Rental

Discover the Secrets to Staying in Apartments and Houses Around the World!

Last Fall while attending a national blogging conference called Blissdom, I had the pleasure of meeting Gillian Duffy and was immediately fascinated and inspired by her great story and positive energy. She and her partner Jason were doing what many of us dream of doing.. they had given up their jobs, sold everything the owned and were living their dream of travelling and living around the world.  It started in 2009 when they took their first big trip – 14 countries round-the-world.

Gillian says it best in her own words on her travel blog called One Giant Step:

” In January 2013 our ‘home and native land’ for untold adventures in far away lands. Our plan is loose at best; our only goals are freedom and happiness. Follow along as we make, and tell, our stories.”

One Giant Step

So when I heard that Gillian had just launched her first book called How to Find the Perfect Vacation Rental, I jumped at the chance to help her promote it. You can read her guest post all about it below. This book is all about saving time, money and hassles when vacationing with your family.  Gillian’s 60 page book  How to Find the Perfect Vacation Rental shares the exact process she uses to book her own vacation rentals on her around-the-world adventures, so you can be sure that it will work for you too.

This digital book explains what a vacation rental is, who they are best suited for and  honestly states the benefits and drawbacks, including a cost comparison case study to show the financial value of vacation rentals. It is available for purchase on Amazon.com and is easily downloaded to your Kindle. (If you don’t have a Kindle, you can also download a Kindle App and it can be read on any digital device.) If you want to BUY IT click here, or enter my contest below.

I am so glad that I met Gillian and I wish her well with this book and as a traveller at heart, I also look forward to following her adventures around the world and learning from her experience.

I have TWO digital copies of  How to Find the Perfect Vacation Rental  by Gillian Duffy to giveaway to my lucky readers!  (If you don’t have a Kindle, don’t worry.. I also have it available in a PDF format). Good Luck!

I can’t believe it’s already June and if you haven’t already signed your child up for some fun summer camp experiences, don’ t delay! Many are almost at capacity so do it now before it’s too late. As a mom of three, I know from experience that summer camps offer amazing opportunities for children to try new and exciting things. I love the opportunities for personal growth, independence, confidence and the new friends and great memories they will keep forever. I am going to focus on the Inter Varsity Camp closest geographically to my home, the Circle Square Ranch in Brantford, Ontario. This camp is easy access to anyone living in southern Ontario and even from Toronto GTA is an easy hour long drive.
Circle Square Ranch & Pioneer Camps are proud members of the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada which offers fabulous locations across Canada.  Circle Square Ranch provides an environment in which young people are able to grow spiritually, mentally, socially and physically during their summer day camp experiences.
:ocated in Brantford, Ontario, just minutes from the city, the Brantford camp offers a surprising country oasis, located on a beautiful, rolling countryside. It offers great activities like horseback riding, wall climbing, zip line and archery.
Ranchers are encouraged to try new and exciting activities that are a great challenge and tons of extraordinary fun! New experiences are what camp is all about! Exploring the beautiful outdoors, lots of physical activity (sorry no video games or TV allowed), meeting new friends or connecting with old ones are a part of each fun-filled day at camp.
They offer a wide variety of camp sessions throughout the summer for children 6 – 16 years old. Their vast range of sessions makes Circle Square appealing to kids of all ages and interests. Ranchers participate in a variety of instructional and recreational activities based on their preferences. The overall Rancher to staff ratio for the camp is one staff member to four Ranchers.
  • Skate Park
  • Archery
